Mobility Management

What is Mobility Management?

Federal Transit Law (49 U.S. Code § 5302) defines mobility management as a capital project “consisting of short-range planning and management activities and projects for improving coordination among public transportation and other transportation service providers carried out by a recipient or subrecipient through an agreement entered into with a person, including a governmental entity, under this chapter (other than section 5309); but excluding operating public transportation services.”  -Federal Transit Administration

Mobility Stories

Individuals with Disabilities

Brian had public transit coming to his apartment daily, but he wasn't able to get to the bus without crawling down steps in his inaccessible apartment complex. The mobility manager worked with the community agencies to help Brian get access to mobility with a wheelchair ramp.

Seniors

Senior's need public transit to get to stores, doctor's appointments, engage in the community, attend faith-based services, and to age in place.

Access to Healthcare

Hospitals need mobility management because individuals get an ambulance ride in, but often times they don't have a ride home.
When a patient doesn't have transportation, they often miss the follow up doctor appointment.
